Hello there!<\/strong><\/p>\n I’m finally writing the first post. I’ve been putting it off for a while. Getting started is always a bit scary. But there’s something about the blogs from back when the internet was something new that keeps me interested in having my own. When I was in high school I was part of an online community called Open Diary. I guess that was one of the first sort of blog communities. It was just a platform for people to share their lives anonymously. Nothing super fancy. You could pick the background color and the font of you online diary. that was it \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n So, this is what I want to get back to. The heart of that. I feel like, no matter how advanced technology becomes, and how many possibilities there are to share, we are still just a bunch of humans who have our own stories.<\/p>\n Once I made that choice, then it came to actually setting up the blog. Oh my goodness.<\/strong> So much fiddling, and so time-consuming just to set up the thing! I love to be creative in a visual way…and I’m picky and particular to a fault. Plus, I’m hopelessly analogue in the way I think and approach things. All this means, I need more time to put something together than the average person. It can be hard not to lose my momentum just by the fact that I can take so long. But! I muddled through and here we are! I’m proud of myself.<\/p>\n Now…what’s the point of this blog? To be myself and share my life….AND share the progress of a project I’m working on. It’s been a long time in coming, but it’s been a little dream of mine to write a baking cookbook (aka a bakebook) of old-school and timeless American recipes, to share with this Dutch world I find myself living in. I’m planning to adapt to ingredients that are readily available, so there will be some experimenting. And of course, I’ll adjust everything to the metric system. That’s the basic idea. I’ll share more background later.<\/p>\n This project is also partially a graduation project. I’m finishing up a bachelor degree in Food Innovation here in NL. Crazy enough, I get to use this idea in my study. However, I’m trying to keep that motivation separate, because I’m noticing that it can throw me off my goal. I’m doing this for me…because I really want to. It happens to be combined with school.<\/p>\n So there you have it, my first post. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
\nIt’s been an idea\/thought\/ thing in my head for a while to start a blog. I always put it off because I didn’t want to be just another millennial with a blog shouting for attention. There’s already so much out there…so many brilliant, or not so brilliant ideas. Everything is going so fast. What do I have to contribute to all this? Sometimes technology just makes me want to move to a cave somewhere.
\nBut one day I thought…screw it. I’m just going to make something and see what happens. I guess making the decision to start a blog was already a big step for me. I’m a pretty private person. Not because I don’t want to share…but I usually choose very carefully the people I share with. I don’t want to burden people, I’m afraid of being misunderstood, and I don’t like the thought of personal bits of myself being carried around by people I barely know or don’t know at all.<\/p>\n
